Choked

With the new setup synchronizing across multiple mobile devices with git and statically generating content quickly with Hugo, you guys are gonna be bombarded with useless shit all day every day. By “you guys” I mean the two or three people stalking this blog and the 100 or so bots constantly combing it for vulnerabilities or god knows what else. Pretty soon I think I’m going to get back into the habit of making posts with a bunch of memes. I’ll be honest, though, I don’t come across memes as often now as I used to. In fact, my meme-absorption rate has gone down to virtually nothing. That said, I guess the meme posts will still be rare, but I’d like to at least put together a few this year. I guess I’ll pack that one under “we’ll see”.

Aftershock

I think the US is still reeling from recent events. The overturning of Roe v. Wade is likely going to be felt until it has been reversed completely, permanently. I don’t know if we’re on the path for that, though, and I fear things will get worse before they get better. I’m going to weather the storm, though. I’m going to press on because I have loved ones to think about. I have to think about their health and welfare, as well as their futures.

Current State of the Blog

There have been changes. I’ve alluded to some, but I don’t think I’ve fully described others. So here’s the breakdown of how this shitpile is currently being handled.

I’ve moved away from Jekyll since the number of posts and my template had bogged down site generation to the point of being virtually impossible to update any longer. The limitations of the Ruby language become painfully evident with maintaining a reasonably sized Jekyll blog. The stop after that was Hugo. A static site generator similar to Jekyll but written in the quite-quick language “Go”. So far it’s been an excellent utility. There have been some growing pains having migrated to Hugo relatively early in the Hugo development process. There have been broken things that have required bandages along the way. I still have no regrets.

Roe v. Wade - Dox the Supreme Court

I’ve decided that this post is worth pinning for a while. How long? To be determined.

I think these dickheads want some pro-choice Christmas Carols sung in front of their doorsteps.

Fuck these assholes

I’m not responsible if the addresses listed are incorrect. Shitty right-wing nutjob dickfaces tend to spread misinformation wherever they can. Plus, people who are awful dickheads like these SCOTUS pieces of shit, they tend to move because they rightfully attract a lot of negative attention. Fuck these fuckers.

Expatriate

It might seriously be time to consider getting the fuck out of dodge. The evangelicals influencing American politics are managing to pull off more and more bold moves against rights and freedoms that we’ve enjoyed since the 70’s. We just recently got to enjoy marijuana legalization, as well as mushroom decriminalization. We also saw the legal smoking age bump up from 18 to 21, which is really fucking stupid. You can sign up to step on jihadi IED’s in Afghanistan at 18, but they don’t want you smoking for another three years. It’s fucking moronic.

Malaise

I’ve been traveling a lot for work lately. I remember when I first started out at this job, I actually enjoyed the breaks I’d get from the walking on eggshells at home. Every trip would be an escape. Temporary relief from inevitably fucking something up, whether I actually fucked something up or not.

Now, though, it doesn’t have that same appeal. There is no tension at home. Home is a wonderful and safe place and I enjoy being there more now than I ever have. Traveling for work is simply taking me out of a place I want to be. It’s not an escape, I don’t have anything I need to escape. It’s a huge downer, to be completely honest, and I’ve been traveling pretty extensively. I’m really over it. I don’t think I’m going to be doing a ton more, but I think what I’ve done already is more than enough.

Blog Updates Abound

In my lame-ass “attempt” to port my blog over to Gatsby, I had learned about something called “Shadowing” that Gatsby does in order to allow you to pull someone’s entire theme template from their github but preserve it in your directory structure while altering the theme’s interpretation in the static site generator. Basically, it allows you to customize how something looks without having to modify the thing directly. Very cool idea. Turns out that Hugo has a similar function, except in Hugo-land they call it “left-most wins”. Makes sense. Functionally behaves nearly exactly like Gatsby’s similar feature. I finally updated my blog to utilize this feature. That way I can continually maintain a one to one parity with the original theme while customizing the shit about the theme that I’d rather not have. On occasion I might have to “diff” the files I’m “shadowing” to the original theme, but I doubt it’ll be something I’ll have to worry about often.
