I’m going to go through an incredibly quick rundown of how to conduct your own Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility study using Minitab. The first thing you should keep in mind is that there are ways you “should” conduct a GR&R and there are ways you “shouldn’t”. You “should” be doing a blind, randomized study that doesn’t allow the “operator” to influence the study with what he expects. This isn’t always the easiest way to begin your first study or introduce yourself to these types of studies. For your first study, just do your trials in order.

Statistics
Statistical Analysis of Variance. Using standard deviations six times higher and six times lower than your target, determine whether your process is “in control” or “out of control”. Good stuff.
It’s also part of the framework for determining the reproducibility and repeatability of gaging. I’ve discovered that Minitab is one of the best software suites for achieving what you need in calculating ANOVA for your GR&R. It’s a great deal faster than laying out your own Excel spreadsheet, and it allows you to completely automate the process. Doing capability studies, GR&R’s, and X̅&R charts becomes a task that requires seconds, rather than having to deal with irritating Excel spreadsheets or plotting by hand. I’ve learned a ton about statistical process control. I’ve also learned a ton about what works, and what doesn’t.
The only IM client you’ll ever need: Minbif
Minbif is minimal, flexible, easy to use, and best of all- IRC related. It’s really no more than an IRC interface to libpurple. The biggest difference between Bitlbee and minbif is that minbif uses a control scheme very similar to most popular IRCd’s. Bitlbee goes for a “connect via IRC and control with oddball channel commands” approach. I like minbif’s style a great deal more than bitlbee’s.
Here goes.
To compile/install minbif just do the usual:
Disconnect From P2P if VPN Drops
If you’re using Windows 7 as a host OS, there’s a chance you may need to occasionally use VPN to cover your ass. VPN services are excellent, but it’s an open-ended technology with a wide variety of possibilities. One of those unfortunate possibilities is that internet transfers can be resumed if your VPN connection is dropped for whatever reason. Well, kids, I’ve got a solution for you- a Windows 7 native solution at that. I’ll use uTorrent as my example.
4chan Grabber
It’s that time again. Time for me to try to sleep and fail miserably. But this
time I only have a three hour window in which to make the attempt, so I’m
considering giving up on the effort entirely. Instead, I’ll just post a bash
script that downloads 4chan thread content effortlessly. It’s pretty damn handy,
if you think about it. Just execute as such: 4chan <url>
. It was based on
this script and modified to
use xargs and concurrent downloads. Without further ado, a quick hack of a quick
hack.
100 Windows in irssi
Life in a terminal can be hard. There are times when a GUI really is useful. “My kingdom for an Alt+Tab!” IRC can be one of those things. The best coping mechanism I’ve found is to google the hell out of any given problem I have until it’s thoroughly solved. Example: Managing a ton of windows in IRC- specifically irssi. There are terminal clients that do this right off the bat, but irssi is old and trusted. Without further ado, “100 Windows in irssi”, blatantly ripped off from this guy.
How to Find MP3’s Using Google
This is a handy guide to using Google to search for pirated music. This can be applied to other file types as well, but it’s best for MP3’s. I’d link back to the original material, but this information has been reposted so much that I’m not sure anyone really knows from where it originated. That said, on to the juicy bits.
How To Find MP3's with Google

= Section 0 - KEY
----------------------------------------------------------------------You this are just some definitions I will use below.
[Directory String] can be any of the following :
1) "index of"
2) "last modified"
3) "parent of"
[file type] can be any of the following :
1) "mp3"
2) "shn"
3) "wma"
[mp3 name] can be any of the following :
1) the name of the album in quotes
2) the name of the artist in quotes
3) be daring and leave it blank and have lots of links
4) be creative!
[limitors]
1) -html -htm -php -asp -txt -pls
(inurl:) is optional and may be omitted and in fact most be
omitted if not using a search tool other than google.
(intitle:) can be used in place of (inurl:) and has a similar effect
again you must be useing google.
(-filetype:txt) adding this to the end of your search string can
filter some false positives.
(-playlist) adding this to the end of your search string can
filter some false positives.

= Section 1 - Directories
----------------------------------------------------------------------These are the most common way that mp3s are stored on the www, you
should try these strings first.
String Format :
Type 1 : [Directory String] + (inurl:)[file type] + [mp3 name]
Type 2 : [Directory String] + (intitle:)[file type] + [mp3 name]
Type 3 : [Directory String] + [file type] + [mp3 name] + [limitors]
Example Strings :
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + "grandaddy" -html -htm -php -asp -txt -pls
- "index of" + "mp3" + "radiohead" -html -htm -php
- "index of" + mp3 + "grandaddy"
- "index of" + inurl:mp3 + "beatles" -txt -pls

- "last modified" + "shn" + "dylan"
- "last modified" + inurl:shn + "bob dylan"
- "parent of" + inurl:wma + "grandaddy"
Suggestions :
- Try (intitle:index.of + "mp3" + "band name" -htm -html -php -asp) first it
is usually the most effective.
Another Little Trick:
- If you have been getting alot of results on google but the pages don't seem
to be there try adding dates and the "apache" string to your search i.e.
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + "grandaddy" -html -htm -php -asp apache feb-2005
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + "grandaddy" -html -htm -php -asp apache 2005
or if you just want a big list of mp3' doing a search like this everymonth
- intitle:index.of + mp3 + -html -htm -php -asp apache mar

Kramdown and Common Sense
Boy did I herp before I derped. All this time I could’ve been posting thumbnailed images, but I didn’t peek into the specifics of Kramdown or how to do it. Ruby seems to be a literal octopus of a language, with all these parsers and things. Ruby seems to be the new Visual Basic, reinventing spaghetti mess. At least it produces pretty results, though.

Simple tip, excellent results, not sure why I didn’t think to experiment with it in the first place. Maybe because my initial impression of Kramdown was that it’s kinda touchy. Don’t know. In any case, I’m a fan now. I might use Kramdown more often, for more than just this blog. Who knows.
